Meet Prem Studio: Your AI Workshop

Prem Studio is an enterprise-grade platform that accelerates ML and data teams in building custom reasoning models – acting as your AI co-pilot for end-to-end development. At a high level, Prem Studio breaks the process into four key stages, each enriched with automation and best practices: Datasets, Fine-Tuning, Evaluations, and Deployment. Below, we dive into each stage – what technically happens under the hood and why it matters:

1. Datasets – Upload & Prepare

Everything starts with your data. Prem Studio’s Datasets module makes it easy to ingest and prepare both structured and unstructured data for AI training. Simply drag and drop files or connect to data sources, and the platform guides you through cleaning and organizing them. You can automatically redact PII and sensitive information with built-in privacy agents, ensuring that no confidential data leaks into training outputs. 2. Fine-Tuning – Train Your Custom Model

Once your data is ready, Prem Studio’s Fine-Tuning module helps you train a model tailored to your data and needs. Here, knowledge distillation comes into play: the platform leverages large foundation models as teachers and distills their knowledge into a smaller Specialized Reasoning Model (your SRM) fine-tuned on your data. The result is a model that retains the intelligence of larger models but is optimized for your specific domain – meaning faster inference and lower costs in production.

Broad model support: You can choose from 30+ state-of-the-art base models to fine-tune, spanning multiple providers and sizes. This includes top open-source models like Mistral, LlaMA, Qwen, and Google’s Gemma family, among others. Prem Studio keeps an updated catalog, so you’re never limited to one vendor’s lineup. You can select a particular model if you know what you want, or simply let Prem Studio recommend the best option based on your dataset size and task. 

It’s worth noting that Prem’s knowledge distillation approach results in smaller, faster models without significant loss in accuracy. By training a “student” model on outputs from a larger “teacher” (in combination with your data), Prem Studio compresses intelligence efficiently. The end result: you get a bespoke model that’s both high-performing and efficient, built in a fraction of the time it would take a hand-tuned, in-house project.

3. Evaluations – Test & Refine Your Model

Before deploying any model, you need to rigorously evaluate it – and Prem Studio makes this both comprehensive and painless. The Evaluations module provides a suite of testing and benchmarking tools to ensure your fine-tuned model is truly enterprise-ready. Rather than just giving you a single accuracy number, Prem Studio enables multi-faceted evaluations to probe the model’s behavior, quality, and safety.

One key feature is LLM-as-a-judge scoring. This uses AI to evaluate AI: Prem Studio employs language models (kept internal for privacy) to act as impartial judges of your model’s outputs.

Prem Studio also supports side-by-side comparisons of models. You can stack your newly fine-tuned model against other models – including the base model you started from, or even external models – to see where yours is better or needs improvement. 

Speaking of rubrics, Prem Studio allows you to define custom evaluation metrics and rubrics that matter to you. You can specify your own judgement criteria in plain English - essentially telling the platform what “good” looks like for your use case. For instance, you might add a rubric for “factual accuracy” or “brand voice consistency.” The platform’s evaluators will then score the model on those dimensions.

Crucially, evaluations in Prem Studio are integrated and continuous. Because the evaluation step is part of the same platform, you can easily loop back to Fine-Tuning with new insights (for example, flagging misclassified cases and adding them to your dataset, or adjusting a prompt). In sum, Evaluations in Prem Studio provide both a magnifying glass and a safety net – you’ll know exactly how your AI performs and have the tools to fix any shortcomings.

4. Deployment – Scalable & Secure

After fine-tuning and rigorous testing, Prem Studio lets you deploy your model instantly. The Deployment module is designed to take the pain out of serving models in production.
